Rules

For this to work, we need to agree on a few things.

sit in silence logo

No phones, talking or distractions.

This one’s self-evident. Phones off; no devices, books, notepads, sketchbooks. This“sit in silence,” not “read / doodle / play Candy Crush in silence.”

No “outsmarting”

It is fun to try to figure out the edges of the rules, but this is about sincerely giving the experience a shot, not a contest to see who can be the most creative at non-verbal communication. Don’t hum, or whistle, or do sign language, whatever. Being clever is a blast, but this isn’t the space for that kind of cleverness. Thank you for your restraint.

No big moves

Fine to adjust yourself and stay comfortable, but no standing/stretching/body movemeoutside the bounds of “shifting while sitting.” Don’t, like, throw things.

Don’t be weird

Glancing around is fine; staring at people (except me) isn’t okay. Touching them: doubly not okay. Just, like, don’t make other people uncomfortable.

Be comfortable

Sit comfortably, feel free to do whatever you normally do when sitting (crossing uncrossing legs, rolling your neck, etc. Try not to fall asleep, though.

Leave if you need to

This isn’t for everyone; if you feel like you’re cracking up, just leave quietly.

Prizes!

Make it to the end, get a swell prize.
